Clay bricks with low porosity have obvious advantages in metallurgical industry, mainly in the following aspects:

I. Excellent corrosion resistance

The porosity of low porosity clay brick is usually lower than 17%, even as low as 10%. Low porosity makes the brick more compact, which can effectively resist the erosion of high-temperature molten metal and slag. In metallurgical lining, this characteristic can significantly prolong the service life of lining and reduce the maintenance frequency.

II. High strength and high fire resistance

Low porosity clay brick has high compressive strength and fire resistance. For example, DN-12 clay brick with low porosity has a compressive strength of 68 MPa at room temperature and a softening temperature of 1500°C under load. This high strength and high fire resistance make it possible to keep its structure stable in high temperature environment, and it is suitable for high temperature equipment such as blast furnace, converter and electric furnace.

III. Good thermal shock stability

Clay bricks with low porosity perform well under thermal shock conditions. The service life of low porosity clay brick is 2 to 3 times longer than that of ordinary clay brick. Its stable performance and corrosion resistance enable it to run stably in metallurgical equipment for a long time and reduce the downtime caused by material replacement.

Low porosity clay brick is suitable for a variety of metallurgical process environments, including blast furnace, converter, hot blast stove and so on. Its good chemical corrosion resistance enables it to resist acidic or neutral slag produced in metallurgical process.

Although the initial cost of low porosity clay brick may be slightly higher than that of ordinary clay brick, it has high economy in the long run because of its long life and low maintenance cost.
