Application Characteristics of Silicon Brick

In modern industrial production, high-temperature furnaces are indispensable and important equipment for many industrial processes. As a refractory with excellent performance, silica brick is widely used in the construction and maintenance of various high-temperature furnaces, which provides a solid guarantee for industrial production.

I. Definition and chemical composition of silica brick

Silica brick, also known as silica refractory brick, is a kind of refractory material with silica as the main component. Its silicon dioxide content is usually between 93% and 96%, and this high content of silicon dioxide gives silicon bricks excellent fire resistance and acid slag corrosion resistance. In addition to silicon dioxide, silicon brick also contains a small amount of other oxides, such as ferric oxide, etc. The content of these components is strictly controlled at a low level to ensure the overall performance of silicon brick.

II. Characteristics of Silicon Brick

(1) High fire resistance

Silicon brick has extremely high fire resistance, and its fire resistance temperature is generally around 1700℃, or even higher. This means that the silicon brick can remain stable in the extremely high temperature environment without melting or deformation, thus effectively protecting the structural integrity of the furnace and prolonging the service life of the furnace.

(2) Good acid slag corrosion resistance

In many industrial production processes, acid slag will be produced in the furnace, which is very corrosive to refractories. Because of its chemical composition and structural characteristics, silicon brick has good corrosion resistance to acidic slag, and can work stably in acidic environment for a long time, reducing the damage of refractories caused by slag corrosion.

(3) High volume stability

Silicon bricks have high volume stability in high temperature environment, and will not expand or contract excessively due to temperature changes. This characteristic is very important for the structural stability of the kiln, which can effectively reduce the cracks and deformation caused by thermal expansion and cold contraction of the kiln and improve the overall service life of the kiln.

III. Application fields of silicon bricks

Silicon brick has been widely used in many industrial fields because of its excellent performance.

(1) Coke ovens

Coke oven is the key equipment in coking production, and its furnace body needs to withstand the double tests of high temperature and chemical erosion. Silicon brick is an ideal material for the wall and bottom of coke oven, which can effectively resist the corrosion of high temperature and acid slag and ensure the normal operation and service life of coke oven. For example, in the construction of large coke ovens, the use of high-quality silicon bricks can significantly improve the production efficiency and stability of coke ovens.

(2) Glass kilns

In the production process of glass kiln, it needs to run at high temperature for a long time, and the glass melt also has a certain erosion effect on refractories. Silicon brick has good corrosion resistance and high fire resistance, which can meet the production requirements of glass kiln. Different types of glass kilns have slightly different performance requirements for silica bricks. For example, for some high-temperature glass kilns, silica bricks with higher silica content are needed to ensure their stability at high temperatures.

(3) Hot air stoves

Hot blast stove is an important equipment in iron and steel production, which is used to provide high temperature hot air for blast furnace. Silicon brick has been widely used in the vault and checker brick of hot blast stove. Its high fire resistance and good corrosion resistance can effectively improve the thermal efficiency and service life of the hot blast stove and reduce energy consumption.

(4) Non-ferrous metal smelting furnace

In the process of nonferrous metal smelting, the furnace environment is complex, and there are many unfavorable factors such as high temperature and acidic slag. Silicon brick can effectively resist these harsh conditions, provide reliable protection for non-ferrous metal smelting furnace and ensure the smooth smelting process.

IV. Quality Control and Inspection of Silicon Brick

High-quality silicon brick is the key to ensure the normal operation of the furnace, so strict quality control and testing are essential. In the production process, enterprises usually establish a perfect quality control system to strictly control all links such as raw material procurement, production process and finished product inspection. Professional quality inspectors will sample the products, including chemical composition analysis, physical properties test (such as cold-pressed strength, apparent porosity, etc.) and appearance inspection. Only products that meet the quality standards can leave the factory to ensure that users can obtain reliable silicon brick products.

V. Future Development of Silicon Brick

With the continuous development of industrial technology, the performance requirements of silicon bricks are also constantly improving. In the future, the production of silicon bricks will pay more attention to environmental protection, energy saving and consumption reduction. On the one hand, by improving production technology and equipment, energy consumption and pollutant emission in the production process are reduced; On the other hand, research and develop higher performance silicon brick products to meet the increasingly stringent industrial production requirements.
