Application Process of Refractory Mud

Refractory mud is an important material for building, sealing and repairing refractory materials in high temperature industry. The following is the use process and matters needing attention of refractory mud:

I. Use process

(1) Material preparation

Prepare refractory mud, water, agitator, spatula, scraper and other tools.

Ensure the quality of refractory mud meets the requirements, and carry out chemical analysis and physical performance testing when necessary.

(2) Surface cleaning

Clean the surface to be repaired or built, remove dust, impurities and old mud blocks, and ensure that the surface is clean and dry.

(3) mixing refractory mud

Mix refractory mud and water in proportion and stir evenly until a uniform slurry is formed. Pay attention to control the amount of water added, too much or too little will affect the performance.

(4) Construction daubing

Use spatula or scraper to evenly spread the refractory mud on the refractory brick or the surface to be repaired, so as to ensure that the gaps are filled and no gaps are left. When smearing, it should be compacted and smoothed to avoid air holes and unevenness.

(5) curing and drying

After the refractory mud is coated, it needs to be naturally dried and cured, and the curing time is usually 2-3 days. After curing, it should be baked and dried, and the temperature should be raised in strict accordance with the temperature rise curve to avoid peeling or cracking caused by rapid temperature rise.

(6) Inspection and maintenance

Check the integrity and performance of refractory mud regularly, and repair it in time when problems are found, so as to prolong the service life.

II. Matters needing attention

(1) Control water consumption

When mixing refractory mud, strictly control the amount of water added to avoid water-slurry separation or uneven mixing.

(2) control the construction environment temperature

The construction environment temperature should be controlled between 5℃ and 35℃. Too high or too low temperature will affect the performance of refractory mud.

(3) Thickness of mortar joint

Under the action of high temperature stress, the thickness of mortar joint should be controlled within 2mm to avoid high temperature deformation.

(4) Matching refractory mud and refractory bricks

The physical and chemical indexes of refractory mud should be the same as those of refractory bricks to ensure the overall performance.

(5) baking and heating

Baking should be carried out in strict accordance with the heating curve to avoid cracking of refractory mud caused by rapid temperature change.

Through the above steps and precautions, the stability and service life of refractory mud in high temperature environment can be ensured.
