Difference between Diatomite Insulating Brick And Insulating Brick

Diatomite insulating brick and ordinary insulating brick are both heat-insulating refractories, but there are some differences in raw materials, properties and applications.

I. Composition of raw materials

Diatomite insulating brick: The main raw material is natural porous diatomite, and a small amount of bonded clay and combustible materials are usually added.

Ordinary insulating brick: According to different types, raw materials may include refractory clay, high-alumina bauxite, floating beads, mullite, etc.

II. Performance characteristics

Diatomite insulating brick:

Low bulk density: usually between 0.4 and 0.7 g/cm.

Low thermal conductivity: at 300℃, the thermal conductivity ranges from 0.13 to 0.20 W/(m k).

Moderate compressive strength: the compressive strength at room temperature is between 0.8 and 2.5 MPa.

Fire-resistant temperature: generally suitable for insulation layer of 900-1200℃.

Water absorption: the strength will decrease obviously after being wetted.

Ordinary insulating brick:

Bulk density: It is usually slightly higher than that of diatomite insulating brick, for example, the bulk density of clay insulating brick is between 0.3 and 1.5 g/cm.

Thermal conductivity: relatively high, but the specific value varies with the material.

Compressive strength: generally higher, suitable for scenes requiring higher strength.

Fire-resistant temperature: It can be used in a wide range of temperatures. For example, high-alumina insulating brick can withstand 1000-1500℃.

III. Application scenarios

Diatomite insulating brick:

It is mainly used for thermal insulation below 900℃, such as industrial furnaces, heating furnaces and glass furnaces.

It is also suitable for thermal insulation and sound insulation materials of building walls.

Ordinary insulating brick:

The application range is wider, including the thermal insulation layer of high-temperature furnaces, hot stoves, industrial boilers and so on.

High alumina insulating brick and mullite insulating brick are suitable for higher temperature scenes.

IV. Price and cost performance

Diatomite insulating brick: Generally, the price is close to the people, and it has the characteristics of high quality and low price.

Ordinary insulating brick: Prices vary with different materials and processes. High-alumina insulating brick and mullite insulating brick usually have higher prices.

V. Summary

Diatomite insulating brick, with its low density, low thermal conductivity and good thermal insulation performance, is especially suitable for thermal insulation scenes with low temperature, but its strength will decrease in damp environment. Ordinary insulating brick has a wider applicable temperature range and higher strength according to different materials, and is suitable for various scenes with high temperature and high strength requirements.
