How To Use Clay Refractory Bricks in Blast Furnace

When clay refractory bricks are used in blast furnace, it is necessary to select suitable refractory bricks according to different parts and working conditions of blast furnace, and build and maintain them in strict accordance with construction specifications. The following are the specific usage methods of clay refractory bricks in blast furnace:

I. Masonry of blast furnace bottom

Foundation treatment: clean the foundation surface to ensure that there are no oil stains and sundries.

Masonry preparation: prepare clay refractory bricks according to the design requirements and check their quality.

Masonry method: The bottom of the furnace is usually laid vertically, with each layer laid in a cross or a zigzag shape, and the center lines of the upper and lower adjacent brick layers are staggered by 30. When laying, use phosphate mud, brick joints should be full and the thickness of brick joints should be strictly controlled.

Brick joint treatment: the width of brick joint is generally controlled within 2-5mm to ensure the compactness and stability of masonry.

Curing and curing: After masonry is completed, proper preheating and drying shall be carried out to eliminate internal stress and improve the stability of refractory bricks.

II. Masonry of Blast Furnace Body

Upper and middle parts of the furnace body: generally, clay bricks or high-alumina bricks with low porosity are used, and these parts are slightly damaged.

Lower part of the furnace shaft: Due to high temperature and serious chemical erosion, high-quality dense clay refractory bricks or high-alumina bricks are usually selected, and corundum bricks or silicon carbide bricks can be used near the waist of the furnace.

Masonry technology: Bricks are bonded by rubbing method with refractory glue or mortar to ensure full joints and accurate positions of bricks.

III. Masonry of waist and belly of blast furnace

Material selection: The working conditions at the waist and belly of the furnace are harsh, so it is necessary to choose refractory materials with strong slag erosion resistance and erosion resistance, such as high alumina bricks, corundum bricks or silicon carbide bricks.

Masonry requirements: during masonry, ensure that the brick joints are dense and smooth to avoid hollowing or looseness.

IV. Matters needing attention in construction

Verticality and levelness: tools such as level and ruler should be used during masonry to ensure the verticality and levelness of bricks.

Brick joint treatment: Brick joints should be filled with refractory slurry to ensure full brick joints and avoid heat loss and structural instability caused by excessive brick joints.

Preheating and drying: After masonry is completed, proper preheating and drying should be carried out to improve the stability of refractory bricks.

V. Maintenance and inspection

Regular inspection: During the operation of blast furnace, check the use of refractory bricks regularly, and repair and replace damaged bricks in time.

Temperature control: avoid excessive temperature fluctuation to reduce the damage of thermal stress to refractory bricks.

Through the above methods, the reasonable use of clay refractory bricks in blast furnace can be ensured, the service life of blast furnace can be prolonged and the production efficiency can be improved.
