White corundum has many important applications in iron and steel industry, mainly in the following aspects:

I. Refractory materials

White corundum is widely used to manufacture refractories because of its high melting point (about 2050°C), excellent thermal shock resistance and chemical stability. Specific applications include:

Ladle and tundish lining: white corundum is used as the bottom lining and repair material of ladle, which can withstand the corrosion of high-temperature molten steel and prolong the service life of ladle.

Lining of converter and electric furnace: white corundum refractory bricks and castable are used for high temperature lining of converter and electric furnace, which can effectively resist high temperature and chemical erosion.

II. Sand blasting

White corundum sandblasting technology is widely used in surface cleaning and pretreatment in iron and steel industry;

Remove rust and stains: White corundum particles have high hardness (Mohs hardness 9.0), which can effectively remove rust, scale and old coating on steel surface.

Improve the surface roughness: the surface roughness after sandblasting treatment is increased, which is helpful to enhance the adhesion of subsequent coatings.

White corundum abrasive is also widely used in grinding and polishing steel products;

High-precision machining: White corundum grinding wheel and grinding tool are used to grind high-hardness alloy steel, stainless steel and other materials, which can achieve high-precision machining.

Surface smoothness improvement: white corundum micropowder can be used for precision polishing, so that the steel surface can achieve high smoothness.

IV. Wear-resistant coating

White corundum abrasive can also be used as the aggregate of wear-resistant coating, which is prepared on the surface of mechanical parts by thermal spraying and other technologies, which significantly improves its wear resistance and service life.
