In practical application, ordinary aluminum silicate fiber felt and expanded aluminum silicate fiber felt have their own characteristics and application scenarios, and which one is more commonly used depends on specific needs. The following is the comparison and usage scenario analysis of the two:

I. Ordinary aluminum silicate fiber felt

(1) Advantages:

Low thermal conductivity: Ordinary aluminum silicate fiber felt has a low thermal conductivity, usually between 0.04 and 0.06 W/(MK), which can effectively prevent heat transfer.

Good thermal insulation performance: ordinary aluminum silicate fiber felt can maintain stable thermal insulation performance in high temperature environment.

Low cost: Because the production process is relatively simple, the cost of ordinary aluminum silicate fiber felt is low, which is suitable for large-scale application.

(2) Disadvantages:

Low strength: ordinary aluminum silicate fiber felt mainly relies on binder to bond fibers, and the combination between fibers is relatively weak. When subjected to external force, fibers are easy to loosen or fall off.

Poor high-temperature stability: at high temperature, the general aluminum silicate fiber felt may affect the overall stability due to the performance change of the binder.

(3) Application scenario:

Industrial kilns: used for industrial kilns, heating devices, high-temperature pipeline wall linings, etc.

Building fire protection: used for building fire prevention and heat insulation.

Chemical equipment: wall lining for chemical high temperature reaction equipment and heating equipment.

II. Expandable aluminum silicate fiber felt

(1) Advantages:

High expansion rate: the expanded aluminum silicate fiber felt will expand when heated, forming a multi-layer sheet structure, further reducing the thermal conductivity and improving the thermal insulation performance.

Better sealing performance: the expanded aluminum silicate fiber felt can better fill the gap and improve the sealing performance after expansion.

(2) Disadvantages:

Higher cost: Due to the addition of expansive materials, the cost of expansive aluminum silicate fiber felt is relatively high.

Complicated installation: the expansion space needs to be reserved when installing the expanded aluminum silicate fiber felt, and the installation process is relatively complicated.

(3) Application scenario:

High-temperature equipment: suitable for high-temperature equipment that needs higher thermal insulation performance, such as high-temperature pipes and high-temperature furnace linings.

Fire prevention and heat insulation: used in fire doors, firewalls and other parts, which can effectively prevent the fire from spreading.

III. Market trends

Ordinary aluminum silicate fiber felt is still the mainstream product in the market because of its low cost and stable performance, and is widely used in industrial furnaces, building fire prevention and other fields.

Although the cost of expanded aluminum silicate fiber felt is high, its market share is gradually increasing in some scenes with high requirements for thermal insulation and sealing performance.

In practical application, ordinary aluminum silicate fiber felt is more suitable for large-scale application because of its low cost and stable performance, and it is the mainstream product in the market at present. Although the expanded aluminum silicate fiber felt has advantages in heat insulation and sealing performance, it is more used in scenes that require high heat insulation performance because of its high cost.
