Which Plug Brick Is Suitable for High Temperature Environment

In high temperature environment, plug bricks need to have excellent wear resistance, corrosion resistance and thermal shock resistance to ensure long-term stable operation under the impact of high temperature molten steel and slag. The following are several plug brick materials suitable for high temperature environment and their characteristics:

I. Silicon carbide-based plug bricks

Silicon carbide (SiC)-based plug brick is an ideal refractory material in high temperature environment. Its main features include:

High fire-resistant temperature: The fire-resistant temperature of silicon carbide brick can be as high as 1900℃, and it can withstand extreme high temperature.

Strong wear resistance and corrosion resistance: Silicon carbide bricks have high hardness and excellent wear resistance, and can resist the corrosion of high-temperature molten steel and slag.

Good thermal shock resistance: in high temperature environment, silicon carbide bricks have excellent thermal shock resistance and are not easy to be damaged due to temperature changes.

Widely used: it is suitable for the nozzle and plug of ladle and tundish, and can effectively control the flow of molten steel.

II. High-alumina plug bricks

High alumina plug brick takes high alumina clinker as the main raw material and has the following characteristics:

High refractoriness: the refractoriness of high-alumina brick can reach 1750~1790℃, which belongs to advanced refractories.

Good corrosion resistance: high alumina brick can effectively resist the corrosion of acidic and alkaline slag and is suitable for high temperature environment.

Strong high-temperature stability: it is not easy to soften or deform at high temperature, and is suitable for the plug of ladle and tundish.

III. Al-SiC-C composite plug brick

Aluminum silicon carbide carbon (ALO-SiC-C) composite plug brick combines the advantages of many materials:

Wear resistance and corrosion resistance: It has good wear resistance and corrosion resistance and is suitable for pouring high-temperature molten steel.

Thermal shock resistance: able to withstand frequent temperature changes and reduce damage caused by thermal shock.

High high temperature strength: maintain high mechanical strength in high temperature environment.

IV. Unfired (unfired) silicon carbide plug bricks

Unburned silicon carbide plug brick is made by special production process, which has the following advantages:

Simplify the production process: there is no need for high-temperature firing, which reduces the production cost.

Energy saving and emission reduction: the production process is more environmentally friendly and reduces energy consumption.

High yield: avoiding possible cracks and waste products in the firing process, and the yield can reach over 90%.

Excellent performance: excellent wear resistance, corrosion resistance and thermal shock resistance.

V. Composite Mg-based plug brick

The composite magnesium-based plug brick is embedded with grid plates through a special preparation process to enhance its performance;

Thermal shock resistance: able to withstand frequent changes in high and low temperatures.

Creep resistance: keep good creep resistance at high temperature.

Corrosion resistance: it can effectively resist the corrosion of high-temperature molten steel and slag.

VI. Recommended materials

On the whole, silicon carbide-based plug bricks and high-alumina plug bricks are ideal materials for high-temperature environment. The wear resistance and corrosion resistance of silicon carbide brick make it perform well under extreme high temperature conditions, while high alumina brick has obvious advantages in fire resistance and corrosion resistance. If the performance needs to be further optimized, aluminum silicon carbide carbon composite plug brick can be considered, and its comprehensive performance can meet the higher requirements of high temperature environment.
